Road, railway, logistics projects discussed with delegation of Greece in Chisinau

The modernization of roads’ infrastructure, connection to the European TEN-T network, development of railway transport and capitalization of the logistics potential of Moldova were the main topics discussed at a today’s meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and a delegation of Greece.

The visit took place at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR). The Greek delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Haris Theocharis, and included Ambassador Nikolaos Krikos, as well as representatives of Greek companies in the fields of infrastructure, energy and construction.

A central point of the discussions was Moldova’s integration into the European TEN-T transport network. The authorities analyzed the prospects for electrifying the Ungheni railway line and connecting it to Romania’s railway infrastructure, developing the Beresti–Ungheni multimodal hub, as well as modernizing the southern railway corridor.

According to the MIDR, these projects are considered essential for enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating the flow of goods and passengers between  Moldova and the member states of the European Union.

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea presented the ministry’s priorities regarding the development of express roads and the preparation of road connection projects with Romania. The modernization of the national road network is seen as a strategic pillar for economic development and attracting investments.

Greek entrepreneurs expressed their interest in participating in these projects, especially in construction works and the modernization of transport infrastructure.

In the field of air transport and logistics, discussions focused on capitalizing on Marculesti Airport as a cargo hub, modernizing the Chisinau International Airport and extending air connectivity.

The sides also analyzed the development of multimodal transport, through the integration of port infrastructure with railway and road networks, in order to optimize logistics chains and increase economic competitiveness.

The meeting reconfirmed the shared interest in deepening the dialogue between the  Moldova and Greece and in identifying concrete cooperation projects in infrastructure and transport.

The authorities emphasized their openness to attracting Greek investments and technical expertise in the implementation of strategic projects aimed at the modernization and infrastructural integration of Moldova.
