Moldovan-Romanian bilateral cooperation strengthened through new diplomatic mandate: Ambassador of Moldova presented copies of accreditation letters in Bucharest
The relations between Moldova and Romania continue to develop at an unprecedented level, marked by intense political dialogue and extensive cooperation in multiple strategic fields. The consolidation of this partnership was reconfirmed today, when Mihai Mitu, the designated Ambassador of Moldova to Bucharest, handed over copies of his letters of accreditation to Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for a broad discussion on the overall state of bilateral relations, with both interlocutors noting the exceptional dynamics of Moldovan-Romanian cooperation. The sides highlighted the high level of political interaction, including at the highest level, as well as the diversity of areas in which the two states actively collaborate.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their determination to amplify and diversify bilateral cooperation, with a focus on key sectors, such as the economy, infrastructure, energy, regional cooperation and the strengthening of inter-institutional ties. Officials underlined that the development of joint projects directly contributed to the modernization of Moldova and to the deepening of its integration into the European space.
A central point of the discussions was Romania’s support for the European integration of Moldova. Mihai Mitu emphasized Romania’s role as "the main supporter of the country’s European course, including in the process of officially opening accession negotiations across all six clusters." The new Moldovan ambassador and the Romanian diplomacy head noted the importance of cooperation in managing other files related to the process of accession to the European Union.
For her part, Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that the new ambassador’s mandate would bring "a new impulse to Moldovan-Romanian relations, which are grounded in deep historical, cultural and linguistic ties." The Romanian official praised the current dynamic of the bilateral dialogue and underscored the potential for expanding cooperation in areas of common interest.
At the same time, the Romanian side reiterated the readiness of the authorities in Bucharest "to strengthen cooperation at all levels, in a manner that reflects the mutual commitment to support, including in the current context of regional security marked by major challenges."
The presentation of copies of the accreditation letters represents an important formal step in the process of assuming the diplomatic mandate and confirms the continuity of the strategic dialogue between Moldova and Romania, at a defining moment for Chisiau’s European path.
