PHOTO GALLERY // Day of Remembrance and Gratitude through the lens of MOLDPRES: tribute to heroes who died for Moldova's Independence
Moldova today marked the Day of Remembrance and Gratitude, dedicated to commemorating the heroes who fell in the 1992 Dniester War. The solemn moments of the day were captured in images by MOLDPRES photojournalist Mihai Vengher.
The ceremonies began in the center of the capital, with the laying of flowers at the monument to Stephen the Great. Veterans, police officers, soldiers and officials paid tribute to those who lost their lives on the battlefield, defending the independence and territorial integrity of the state.
Afterwards, participants formed columns and set off in the March of Memory towards the Eternity Memorial Complex, a symbolic place where the monument dedicated to the heroes who fell for Moldova’s Independence is erected. Soldiers of the National Army and police officers carried portraits of those who died in the conflict, turning the march into a collective gesture of gratitude and remembrance.
The country’s top officials were at the head of the column: President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
At the Eternity Memorial Complex, a commemorative rally was held for the heroes who died in the 1992 War for the Independence of Moldova.
