Largest photovoltaic park of Moldova inaugurated in Straseni district

The largest photovoltaic park built so far in Moldova has been inaugurated in the village of Radeni, central Straseni district. It has an installed capacity of 50 MW and spans 96 hectares.

The photovoltaic park was built in just eight months. As much as 24 MW of all its capacity will sell generated energy at a fixed price for a period of 15 years, awarded in a recent auction organized by the Ministry of Energy for the title of big eligible producer. Another 26 MW from the Radeni plant will generate energy traded on the free market. The installed bifacial panels have an individual capacity of 715 W and an efficiency of 23 per cent, being the first of their kind to be operational in Moldova.

"Private investors play a very important role in the development of the energy sector and thus contribute both to the country's energy security and to the achievement of our goals to have a 27-per cent share of renewable energy in total consumption," said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu at the park's inauguration.

According to statistical data, in the last five years, photovoltaic and wind generating capacities have increased eightfold, reaching 689 MW in May 2025.

The first auction for the installation of large wind and photovoltaic parks, with a total capacity of 165 MW, have recently concluded, and a new round of auctions for the construction of wind power plants, with an estimated capacity of up to 173 MW is planned for the next autumn, which will include for the first time storage solutions with a capacity of at least 22 MW.

Moldova has set a target to achieve a 30-per cent share of renewable energy in electricity consumption and 27 per cent of renewable energy in final energy consumption by 2030. In 2024, the share of renewable electricity was 16.7 per cent and it is estimated that it will increase to 27 per cent this year.
