Moldovan president, on visit to Warsaw, says Moldova proud to stand with Poland

Moldova is proud to stand with Poland and together we are determined to build a stronger, safer and more united Europe. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect during a joint news conference with President of Poland Andrzej Duda in Warsaw.

The head of state declared that, for 33 years, Moldova and Poland had been building a relationship based on trust, solidarity and common goals.

"I am proud to say that today this partnership is stronger than ever. Thank you for the constant support provided to my country over the years. Your personal involvement, your voice on the international stage and your deep understanding of our region have made a real difference for Moldova," Maia Sandu said.

The official thanked for the assistance provided to the country over the years and invited Polish businessmen to invest in Moldova.

"In 2021, when Russia turned gas into a weapon, Moldova made its first gas purchase from the free market — and we turned to a Polish company. Polish assistance makes a real difference in communities across Moldova — modernizing our schools, hospitals and local institutions. You have helped endow our law enforcement bodies with expertise and equipment, in order to stay resilient in an increasingly complex security environment. We are eager to see more Polish companies invest in Moldova — in such fields as the food and agricultural industry, construction, banking and renewable energy," Maia Sandu noted.

The Moldovan president emphasized that Poland was a source of inspiration for Moldova — through its democratic transformation, economic modernization and successful path toward European integration, and today the country continues to be an exemplary model.

"We also value Poland's strong voice in Europe. You have brought clarity and conviction to some of the most important debates facing the EU — especially concerning enlargement, energy and resilience against external threats. We are grateful that you regard Moldova's security as an integral part of Europe's security. We stand on the frontlines of the hybrid front — defending democracy from cyberattacks, misinformation and illicit financing, while sharing lessons learned in this new and continuously evolving field with our European partners," said Maia Sandu.

She also said that Poland knows better than anyone how much lives can be changed by EU membership.

"You have seen this in your cities, in your industry, in your households. And now, Moldova follows the same path — with commitment, seriousness and determination. We do not ask for shortcuts. We are doing our homework — because we believe in this project. And because we want to contribute to it. Just as Poland strengthened the EU when it joined, Moldova is ready to do the same — for our region, for border security and for Europe's future. Moldova is proud to stand with Poland. And together, we are determined to build a stronger, safer and more united Europe," Maia Sandu stressed.

President Maia Sandu pays a working visit to Poland, in the context of efforts to promote Moldova's European integration and strengthen bilateral relations with partner countries.

The agenda also includes a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The discussions will focus on Poland's support for Moldova's accession to the European Union, as well as bilateral cooperation in political, economic and security sectors.

At the same time, an invitation by Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, the head of state will participate in the annual conference of Polish ambassadors, where she will deliver a speech on developments in Moldova, the expansion of the European Union and the role of the country as a responsible and committed partner.

The visit's agenda also includes a meeting with Moldovans settled in Poland.
