Modern regional hospital to be built in south Moldova city; agreement with top European bank signed in Chisinau

Moldova will have a modern regional hospital in the southern Cahul city, thanks to a 101-million-euros-worth financing agreement signed between the government of Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) today.

The signing ceremony took place in Chisinau, in the presence of Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco and EIB Director, Lionel Rapaille.

The Cahul regional hospital will be built according to European standards and will provide high-performance medical services to over 300,000 citizens from the southern part of the country, the districts of Cahul, Comrat, Leova, Ceadar-Lunga, Taraclia, Cantemir and Vulcanesti.

The medical facility will have an area of over 50,000 m², will be endowed with state-of-the-art equipment and will include an operating block with eight operation rooms, interventional radiology departments, cardiac catheterization, advanced endoscopy and an emergency unit with a hybrid room for complex interventions.

At the same time, the institution will also host a regional oncology center, providing complete treatments: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy and nuclear medicine.

“Through this project, we bring modern medical services closer to people and reduce the pressure on hospitals in the capital. It is a crucial step towards a fair and accessible healthcare system for everyone,” said Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco.

According to the Ministry of Health, the project is already at an advanced stage: the feasibility study and the conceptual technical design have been completed.
