Prime Minister about fiscal policy: We want reform built through dialogue that will support economic development, investments, and higher incomes for people

The Government aims to implement a fiscal reform built through dialogue, which will support economic development, investments, and the growth of people’s incomes. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made the statement in the context of launching public consultations on the fiscal policy for 2027.

According to the official, the authorities are ready to integrate as many suggestions and recommendations as possible in order to ensure a professional and efficient process for developing the new fiscal policy.

“Today in the morning I had a discussion with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, and other members of the Government. We will continue to discuss all together, the dialogue continues with the trade unions and with representatives of various chambers of commerce. We have already received professional proposals and I urge all those who want to contribute to get involved. Criticism is welcome, but constructive criticism. We are ready to incorporate as many proposals as possible in order to make this process professional and productive. We want a reform built through dialogue that will support economic development, investments, and, first and foremost, the growth of people’s incomes,” said Munteanu at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.

The draft fiscal policy for 2027 was submitted for public consultation last week. The authorities have announced that the objective of the new fiscal policy is for every citizen who works to earn more, and for every entrepreneur to be able to invest more in the country’s economic development.

The draft will be subject to public consultations until 19 June 2026. The proposals and recommendations of interested parties will be examined and taken into account in the process of finalizing the document.

The 2027 fiscal policy is to be implemented in three stages: October 2026 – food products, public catering, e-commerce; January 2027 – medicines, cars, accommodation; April 2027 – energy resources. The new Fiscal Code is to be drafted during 2026–2027 and is expected to be promoted in 2028.
