Railway of Moldova state enterprise implements train traffic monitoring system

The Railway of Moldova state enterprise (CFM) is implementing a strategic project to strengthen the security of the railway infrastructure. This includes the setting of video cameras with thermal sensors, GPS equipment for train monitoring and lighting in strategic points along railway routes.

According to CFM, in last December alone, this train traffic monitoring system made it possible to save over 14 tons of diesel fuel, solely by reducing consumption for preheating locomotives during periods of low temperatures.

The institution’s staff are currently receiving training on how to operate the new monitoring and surveillance systems. Staff training is a key element for enhancing safety levels, protecting critical infrastructure and aligning with European security standards.

The project is being carried out with the support of the Government of the United States of America, through the EXBS Programme, within the framework of the Moldova–USA Joint Action Plan.
