Chișinău and Bratislava discuss next steps in EU accession negotiations

The current state of the Republic of Moldova’s accession negotiations with the European Union, as well as the next steps in the European integration process were discussed in Chișinău by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, and Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár.

During the meeting, the officials addressed the progress of the negotiation process and the priorities for the upcoming period in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s European path. The discussions also focused on Slovakia’s experience in strengthening institutions, attracting investments, and implementing the reforms necessary for accession to the European Union.

“I was pleased to discuss in Chișinău with Juraj Blanár, Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, the current state of the negotiation process and the objectives for the next period. We also talked about the lessons we can learn from the experience of our colleagues in Bratislava in strengthening institutions and advancing reforms,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Slovak authorities for their cooperation and for the support offered to the Republic of Moldova on its European path.

Slovakia became a member state of the European Union on 1 May 2004, as part of the largest enlargement wave in the history of the EU. Since accession, the country has recorded significant economic growth, supported by foreign investment and integration into the European single market, which has contributed to the modernization of infrastructure, the development of the industrial sector, and an improved standard of living for the population.
