EU–Moldova Summit // Deputy Prime Minister: We are discussing how we can advance more quickly based on our own merits

The Republic of Moldova is participating in the second Republic of Moldova – European Union Summit with concrete results in the accession process, including the completion of the screening process and the opening of negotiations for the first group of chapters.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov made the statement today.

“Today in Brussels the second Republic of Moldova – European Union Summit is taking place. Moldova comes to this summit with results: we have completed the screening process, we have opened negotiations for the first group of chapters, and we are continuing the reforms that bring our country closer to European standards,” said Gherasimov.

The meeting is attended by President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the summit’s agenda is focused on the European future of the Republic of Moldova and on the steps to be taken in the accession process.

“Today we are discussing the next steps and how we can advance more quickly based on our own merits,” underlined Gherasimov.

During the meeting, leaders will address issues related to the progress of accession negotiations, the gradual integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU single market, attracting investment, strengthening security, and expanding opportunities for citizens and the business community.

The Brussels summit is the second of its kind between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. The first high-level meeting took place in Chișinău on 4 July 2025. The current summit is also the first organized after the official opening of the Republic of Moldova’s accession negotiations with the European Union for the first cluster of chapters – Fundamental Values.

At the end of the meeting, joint press statements by Maia Sandu, Ursula von der Leyen, and António Costa are planned.
