Moldovan, Polish officials discussed next steps for Moldova on path to EU accession
The adoption of good practices from Poland’s experience in the European integration process and the priorities of the Republic of Moldova after the opening of negotiations on the first EU accession cluster were discussed in Chișinău by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Poland’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Bosacki.
The meeting took place just a few days after the launch of negotiations on the first accession cluster of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union and focused on the next steps in the European integration process, as well as the continuation of the reforms needed to bring the country closer to European standards.
“We discussed the priorities for the coming period and the continuation of reforms across the entire country, including by drawing on Poland’s experience in the European integration process,” said Gherasimov.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the importance of the support provided by Poland for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and thanked the authorities in Warsaw for their steady backing of Chișinău.
“I thanked the authorities in Warsaw for the partnership and for firmly supporting the European path of the Republic of Moldova,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.
Poland is considered one of the success stories of European Union enlargement, having joined the EU in 2004. The experience gained by the Polish authorities in the negotiation process and the implementation of reforms is frequently used by candidate states.
The Republic of Moldova officially opened negotiations on Cluster 1 – Fundamental values within the framework of the second Intergovernmental Conference Republic of Moldova – European Union, held recently in Luxembourg.
