Moldova's winter traditions reach Presidency of Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe

The spirit of the winter holidays from the Republic of Moldova echoed on Thursday at the heart of European diplomacy, during the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The event brought our culture and traditions into the international spotlight through a colorful and authentic show.

The carol group “Mocănașii” from Slobozia Mare, Cahul, charmed the participants with carols, festive wishes, and the traditional “Capra,” bringing joy and emotion to the room. As a token of appreciation, the diplomats received a Christmas tree ornament, symbolizing a small piece of Moldova.

“Moldova's traditions echoed today at the Council of Europe! Promoting our country means presenting a living culture, a unique intangible heritage, and generations that carry on the customs that define us. Today we showed that our traditions can unite, inspire, and build bridges between people, regardless of the context,” stated Andrei Chistol, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture.

The official mentioned that the event once again demonstrated that the values and customs of Moldova have the power to strengthen national identity and be recognized on the international stage, bringing a touch of our holiday charm into the lives of European diplomats.

The Republic of Moldova assumed the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on November 14, 2025, and will hold this diplomatic responsibility until May 15, 2026. It is the second time our country exercises this role since its accession to the Council of Europe in 1995, the first being in 2003. During this period, the Republic of Moldova coordinates the work of the main decision-making body of the Council of Europe and organizes a series of official sessions and cultural activities both in Chișinău and in Strasbourg, culminating with a Ministerial Session in Chișinău on May 14-15, 2026, expected to host delegations from all 46 member states of the Council of Europe.
