Road traffic taking place in winter conditions in Moldova

The National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) informed that today evening, due to precipitation, northerly winds, and decreasing temperatures, black ice and frost had appeared on some road sections, and road traffic is taking place in winter conditions throughout Moldova.

According to the CNMC, national roads are, for the most part, passable, but the R-8 Arionesti–Otaci road remains temporarily blocked. The authorities monitor, as priority, the areas of Chisinau, Orhei, Rezina, Criuleni and Ialoveni.

During the day, six road accidents were recorded, resulting in one injured person. No deaths were reported. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) intervened to support medical teams in areas with difficult access, and the situations were managed without serious consequences.

The medical system is operating under an alert regime. The Emergency Pre-hospital Medical Service handled 331 calls, 44 of which were injury cases.

In the energy sector, seven localities in the Rezina and Soldanesti districts, with approximately 590 consumers, remain temporarily without electricity, and intervention teams are working in the field to remedy the situation.

Also, at 18:30, because of unfriendly weather conditions, the Tudora and Palanca border crossing points temporarily suspended the passage of trucks, while traffic for other categories of travelers remains allowed. The Chisinau International Airport is operating as normal.

Additional resources have been mobilized nationwide. The State Roads Administration has 109 vehicles deployed and over 12,000 tons of anti-skid material in reserve for the next 24 hours. The IGSU keeps 319 employees and 90 special vehicles on alert, the General Police Inspectorate has mobilized 700 police officers and 314 patrol cars, and the General Inspectorate of Carabineers has 82 employees and 15 vehicles available.

The CNMC specifies that it is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating the interventions of the institutions involved, calling on the population to exercise caution and follow the authorities’ instructions.
