National Roads Administration says roads passable in Moldova, traffic difficult on some sections over slippery pavement

Traffic on national roads is currently taking place in winter conditions, with black ice, icy surfaces, snow and sleet reported on certain routes, phenomena that are hindering road traffic.

According to the National Roads Administration (AND), road workers are deployed in the field and are intervening to keep traffic flowing in safe conditions. For the next 24 hours, over 12,000 tons of anti-skid material are available, and 109 technical units are active on the national roads. At present, most roads are passable, but on some sections, traffic is difficult due to slippery roadway.

The R-8 Arionesti–Otaci route, which was temporarily blocked due to weather conditions, has been reopened to traffic. At the same time, the areas of Chișinău, Orhei, Rezina, Criuleni and Ialoveni are being monitored as a priority. Because of unfavorable weather conditions, traffic for heavy vehicles has been temporarily suspended at the Tudora and Palanca border crossing points.

The National Roads Administration warns that, starting from today evening, a Yellow Code warning for strong winds issued by meteorologists is in force, valid until January 31, 2026, 13:00. Wind gusts may reach speeds of 15–18 meters per second, which, combined with negative temperatures and precipitation, increases the risk of black ice and icy surfaces, especially during the night and early morning.

In the context, drivers are urged to exercise increased caution, adjust speed to road conditions, maintain a safe distance and avoid risky maneuvers. Authorities also recommend avoiding stopping or parking in areas exposed to the risk of falling branches or trees due to strong winds.
