VIDEO // European Commission publishes roadmap for Moldova

The European Commission has published the Roadmap for Moldova, which sets out a proposed timetable for 2027 and provides for the provisional closure of 25 negotiation chapters by the end of the year. Nine chapters are expected to be closed in the first half of the year, and another 16 - in the second half.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect, noting that the document provides national institutions with a clear course of action for the coming year.

„Another piece of good news coming from Brussels is the publication of the roadmap for Moldova. It is the European Commission’s recommendation included in the enlargement package and addressed to the member states, outlining the next steps in the negotiation process with our country,” Cristina Gherasimov said.

According to the official, the proposed timetable allows for the planning of the activities needed for the provisional closure of more than two-thirds of the negotiation chapters in 2027.

„This proposed timetable for 2027 gives us a clear direction of work for closing more than two-thirds of the chapters in the coming year. For our institutions, this means concrete priorities, responsibilities and deadlines for each half of 2027. They will be reflected in the next update of the National Accession Programme, which the institutions are currently working on,” the deputy PM said.

Cristina Gherasimov emphasized that the reforms carried out as part of the accession process must bring visible changes for citizens and the business environment.

„For citizens and the business environment, this process will mean changes that will be felt: better services, clearer rules and greater confidence in institutions,” the official said.

At the same time, the deputy prime minister pointed out that the publication of the timetable did not guarantee the provisional closure of the chapters within the proposed deadlines. Each chapter will be assessed separately and the decision will depend on Moldova fulfilling the commitments it has undertaken.

„The timetable does not, however, guarantee the closure of the proposed chapters. Each chapter is closed separately and this depends on our results in fulfilling the commitments undertaken when negotiations on the respective chapter were opened, the European Commission’s assessment of progress and the agreement of all member states that our country has implemented the necessary reforms,” Cristina Gherasimov noted.

In the context, the official emphasized the importance of coordination among state institutions and of turning planning into concrete results.

„This is an objective that requires a great deal of work and coordination among institutions, but it also shows us how concrete the prospect of accession has become. Our responsibility is to turn this planning into results and prepare Moldova to become a member of the European Union,” the deputy prime minister concluded.
