Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov today met  representatives of non-governmental organizations, initiative groups and extra-parliamentary political parties, in order to discuss the European Commission’s proposals on the European Union’s preparation for enlargement and the role of the roadmap in advancing Moldova’s EU accession negotiations.

“Today, I discussed with representatives of non-governmental organizations, initiative groups and extra-parliamentary political parties the European Commission’s package of measures on the EU’s preparation for enlargement and the role of the roadmap in advancing the EU accession negotiations,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

The discussions also focused on the gradual integration of Moldova into the European Union and expanding the country’s participation in European policies and programmes before getting the membership status.

“We also discussed gradual integration and the areas in which we can expand our country’s participation in European policies and programmes, so that citizens can benefit from more opportunities even before accession,” the deputy PM noted.

Moldova on October 28 will receive a roadmap outlining the next steps in the process of accession to the European Union. The document is to be presented by the European Commission together with the EU enlargement report and will include indicative stages, deadlines and concrete objectives for candidate countries that are at an advanced stage of negotiations. Moldova, Montenegro, Albania and Ukraine will benefit from the roadmap.

The roadmap is part of the efforts of European Union’s preparation for enlargement and aims to provide a clearer framework for advancing Moldova’s accession negotiations. The subject was also addressed during public consultations held on October 9 by the parliament’s commission for European integration, dedicated to the EU’s preparation for enlargement and the country’s European path.
