President Maia Sandu today received Minister-President of the German state of Bavaria Markus Söder at the State Residence, during his first visit to Moldova. Bavaria is Germany’s largest state by area and one of the strongest industrial economies in Europe.

The discussions focused on the country’s European path, Germany’s support for the security and resilience of Moldova, as well as the development of Moldovan-Bavarian economic relations.

During the visit, the parties agreed upon the establishment of an intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Moldova and Bavaria, a mechanism that will provide a permanent framework for the economic relations between the two sides. “Today we also discussed how we can turn the very good relationship between Moldova and Bavaria into more investments, jobs and business opportunities,” said President Maia Sandu.

The head of state emphasized that this decision was based on solid grounds: more than half of Moldovan exports to the German market go to Bavaria, and in 2025 exports to this state increased by over 50 per cent compared to the year before, reaching around 73 million euros. “We want more Moldovan companies to enter Bavarian value chains and more companies from Bavaria to discover the advantages of investing and producing in Moldova,” the Moldovan president said. She invited the Bavarian business community to get to know Moldovan entrepreneurs and the investment opportunities of the country.

President Maia Sandu thanked Germany for its determined support for the country’s security, the strengthening of defense capabilities, the modernization of the economy and overcoming the energy crisis, as well as for its firm support for the European path: “We continue to count on the support of our partners in Berlin and Munich, so that this process can move forward at a sustained pace.”
