Moldovan president chairs meeting of National Commission for European Integration
President Maia Sandu today chaired a meeting of the National Commission for European Integration, the first attended by members of the new government, led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
During the meeting, the progress report on the implementation of the National Accession Program for the first semester of 2026 was presented. The participants also analyzed the progress made in fulfilling the intermediate benchmark criteria related to Chapters 23 and 24, which refer to justice, fundamental rights, freedom and security. These areas represent the foundation of the entire accession process, and the pace of reforms within them depends primarily on the work carried out at home.
The meeting’s agenda also included the European integration priorities of the new government, as well as preparations for the 2026 Enlargement Package, the annual assessment of the country’s progress by the European Commission. The head of state stressed that Moldova’s advancement on the European path was built through consistently implemented reforms and concrete results felt by citizens.
The Moldovan president called on state institutions, central and local public authorities, civil society and the private sector to stay mobilized and coordinate their efforts, in order to maintain the pace of transformation. The National Commission for European Integration will continue to meet regularly, in order to monitor the implementation of the commitments assumed.
