Medicine stocks of Moldova to be monitored daily at national level

Citizens will have faster access to the medicines they need and the authorities will be able to intervene before stocks are depleted. The government has approved the Concept of the Information System for Monitoring Medicines’ Stocks – the first national platform through which the availability of medicines will be centrally tracked across Moldova.

Until now, the authorities have not had a single electronic system that could provide, in real time, a complete picture of medicines’ stocks. Most of the time, the shortage of certain products was reported only after complaints on behalf of patients, pharmacies or medical institutions.

The new system will collect daily information on medicines’ stocks from manufacturers, importers, distributors, pharmacies and medical institutions. Based on this data, the authorities will be able to identify in advance situations in which certain medicines are at risk of running out and will take measures before stocks are depleted.

“We are moving from crisis management to prevention. The state identifies shortages and intervenes before the lack reaches the patient,” said Minister of Health Alexandru Gasnas.

For citizens, this system will bring greater security and simpler access to the medicines they need. Continuous monitoring of stocks will reduce the likelihood that patients will not find the treatments they require. At the same time, the system will contribute to more efficient supply planning and more responsible use of health resources.

The platform will automatically generate alerts when certain medicines reach a critical stock level, will produce analytical reports and will provide the authorities with an up-to-date overview of the situation at national level, so that decisions are based on real and current data.

The system will be managed by the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency. Daily stock reporting will become mandatory after the necessary technical conditions are created, by December 31, 2026 at the latest.
