Moldovan PM meets European Commissioner for Energy and Housing
Prime Minister Dorin Recean has had a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, on an official visit to Chisinau. The officials discussed current challenges in the energy sector and the strengthening of Moldova’s energy security.
The PM thanked the European Union for the support provided and for the quick responses in critical moments, emphasizing that the partnership with the EU was becoming increasingly solid.
“We are grateful to the European Union for its firm commitment and constant support. Our joint projects provide Moldova with stability and a clear direction towards the future. We are in the midst of a significant transformation process and continue to count on our European partners,” said the prime minister.
The discussions included topics on modernizing energy infrastructure, liberalizing the electricity and gas market and the importance of strategic projects, such as the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line, which is to be completed by December 2025. The prime minister also stressed the need to advance other essential interconnections, such as the Balti-Suceava and Gutinas-Straseni lines, which will speed up Moldova’s integration into the European energy network and enhance the resilience of the national system.
At the same time, the prime minister highlighted the significant progress in the renewable energy field. While four years ago, its share in electricity consumption was only 3 per cent, now it has reached 35 per cent and continues to grow.
Commissioner Dan Jørgensen participates in the high-level EU-Moldova meeting in the energy sector, which takes place in Chisinau today and brings together officials and experts, in order to discuss strategic cooperation in the energy sector.
