Head of State signed decree appointing acting Prosecutor General
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu signed the decree appointing Alexandru Machidon as acting Prosecutor General. His candidacy was proposed by the Superior Council of Prosecutors, following the 28 May meeting.
Today the head of state introduced new acting Prosecutor General to the Prosecutor's Office team.
Maia Sandu spoke about the importance of consolidating an honest and efficient prosecution office. “The Prosecutor’s Office is one of the key institutions that must protect the state and citizens from the attacks of corrupt groups and malign external influences. The reform of the prosecution office and, in particular, the external evaluation of prosecutors should not be a reason for passive attitudes or worse undermining the state's efforts. It depends on each of us, on the attitude and responsibility with which we fulfill our duties, to succeed in defending the sovereignty, democracy, and peace in the Republic of Moldova, and to lay the foundations for a strong state capable of protecting its citizens. Me—and the entire society—rely on your responsibility, patriotism, and ability to be aware of major threats to the country and its citizens and to act in their interest,” declared the head of state.
