Prime Minister Dorin Recean, together with Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi attended the inauguration of the headquarters buildings of Engineer Battalion Codru in Negrești. The renovation works were carried out to create modern working and training conditions for the soldiers, the government's communication department has reported.
The headquarters building, food block and boiler room have been renovated and equipped with everything necessary and the entire territory has been landscaped and illuminated. The work was carried out in August 2024 - March 2025, with a total investment of about 30 million lei from the public budget.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted the professionalism of the sappers of Moldova and thanked them for dedication. 'You have a very good reputation, earned through hard work, risk-taking and courage,' emphasized Recean.
The Moldovan sappers' involvement in explosive disposals following the Dniester war, in international demining missions in Iraq and Kosovo, and the support and training offered to Ukrainian sappers were noted. Also, they are responsible for destroying shells and other explosive items found on the territory of the country and participating in civilian missions to mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
Recean assured that investments in the National Army infrastructure will continue, so that it is equipped according to international standards. 'Both the dynamics and the scope of our investments in the capacity to defend our country and to feel proud and build our life here at home will increase,' he added.
The Engineer Battalion was formed in 1992 and was named Codru in 1993. So far, the battalion has participated in about 3,300 demining missions in the Republic of Moldova, destroying over 95,000 explosive items.
In 2010, the battalion was awarded the state distinction Faith to the Homeland Order, first class, being the first military unit in the Republic of Moldova to be decorated with this order.
