President Maia Sandu delivered a message on the occasion of National Culture Day, marked on January 15, emphasizing the role of culture as an element of cohesion, memory and freedom. “Culture has always been the glue that keeps our society united. Culture is the memory that does not let us forget who we are and where we come from,” said the head of state.

President Maia Sandu also pointed out that, in difficult moments of history, culture had represented a form of resistance: “We, Moldovans, have managed to preserve our mother tongue and culture despite various geopolitical storms. We have preserved them, because they were not just simple traditions passed on by inertia, but authentic forms of resistance.”

The head of state thanked all those who work in the cultural field, from artists and writers to museum workers and librarians, highlighting their role in community life: “You are the ones who bring culture into our homes, no matter where we are.”

On the occasion of National Culture Day, the Moldovan president awarded distinctions to more cultural figures for their remarkable achievements in creative activity.

The head of state also attended the performance “Floare Albastră” (Blue Flower), directed by Ludmila Burlaca, an artistic homage dedicated to poet Mihai Eminescu’s work and cultural legacy.
