Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has chaired the plenary meeting of the Economic Council, which brought together representatives of the business community and the research community. Participants discussed the current economic situation, the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and the Economic Council’s priorities for 2026.

The PM stressed that the government’s goal remains to ensure sustainable economic growth, increase productivity and competitiveness through coherent policies for the business environment. The prime minister also noted that a high‑quality public–private dialogue must become a key driver of economic growth and reset, and that the role of the Economic Council must evolve: from a general consultation platform to an interactive partnership that supports balanced economic policies – those that encourage entrepreneurship without undermining the public interest and society’s well-being.

During the meeting, the priorities set for the coming period were discussed. They include reducing bureaucratic factors in processes, digitizing services for companies, reducing the administrative burden, and launching, within the Economic Council, a permanent working group for the development of the agri-food sector.

Set up in 2011, the Economic Council has the mission of facilitating dialogue between business community’s representatives, the donors’ community, and policymakers, in order to develop a transparent and investment-friendly business environment. The platform brings together 148 members from various sectors – representatives of business associations, public authorities and institutions, research centers, academia, as well as international organizations.
