
Moldovan president at EPP Congress says accession of Moldova, Ukraine's to EU to strengthen Europe
President Maia Sandu has attended the Congress of the European People's Party (EPP), held in Valencia, Spain. The event brought together heads of state, prime ministers, political leaders and European officials from the EPP family, reaffirming their shared commitment to restoring peace, enhancing regional security and promoting economic development.
In her speech, President Maia Sandu emphasized Moldova's firm determination to build its future within the European family: "Moldova and Ukraine must join the European Union not only because they naturally belong there, but also because Europe will be stronger, safer and more united by accepting those who fight for its values."
At the Congress, President Maia Sandu had bilateral meetings with European leaders, including Christian Stocker, Austria's Chancellor, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Boyko Borissov, the leader of the GERB party leading Bulgaria's governing coalition. In discussions, the head of state addressed important topics for the citizens of Moldova, such as restoring peace in Europe, regional security, economic development, projects bringing tangible changes in Moldovans' lives and advancing the EU accession process. By the end of the day, the head of state is scheduled to meet with Ulf Kristersson, the Prime Minister of Sweden, and Friedrich Merz, the leader of Germany's Christian Democratic Party, expected to become Chancellor of Germany on May 6, 2025.
