President met with Moldovans residing in Italy and Spain
In Italy and Spain, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met with members of the Moldovan communities in the two countries. The head of state expressed appreciation for the strong connection Moldovans maintain with their homeland, regardless of distance, and spoke about the shared vision of building a safe, fair and European Moldova.
"To make this vision a reality, we have built trustworthy relationships with friendly countries, and thanks to these relationships, we achieve concrete results that improve the lives of Moldovans at home and abroad," President Sandu said.
In Rome, the President announced that the Social Protection Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Italy is in the final stages of ratification by the Italian authorities. "In all my discussions with external partners, the concerns and needs of Moldovans are a priority," Maia Sandu emphasized.
Currently, the Republic of Moldova has two important agreements with Spain with direct benefits for Moldovan citizens — the one on the conversion of driving licenses and the one on social protection, both taking effect in 2024. With Italy, the Republic of Moldova has the driving license conversion agreement in effect, and the social protection agreement will take effect after the ratification procedures are completed. Maia Sandu continues her program in Spain by attending European People's Party (EPP) Congress in Valencia.
