Liliana Vițu announces priorities as head of Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation

Liliana Vițu announced today her priorities as head of the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation. She emphasized that she will focus on clear communication, cooperation with relevant institutions and partners, as well as on the early identification of manipulation campaigns and information vulnerabilities.

According to Liliana Vițu, the priority of her mandate is strengthening an institution that inspires trust through competence and through the ability to explain in a timely manner to the public the actions meant to reinforce the unity of the Republic of Moldova.

“With a sense of responsibility, I accepted President Maia Sandu’s invitation to take over the leadership of the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation. I am convinced that, together with the Center’s team, we will be that point of reference and support that our society needs in order to be stronger and more resilient,” said Liliana Vițu.

She noted that one of her priorities is clarity – to explain in a simple, timely, and accessible way the complex information phenomena and the risks that affect our society.

“Another priority is cooperation – to build strong partnerships with state institutions, including at the regional level, the press, the academic environment, civil society, and international partners, because information resilience is a joint effort. We will also focus on anticipation – to identify and communicate in advance the trends, manipulation campaigns, and information vulnerabilities, so that we can act preventively,” said Liliana Vițu.

President Maia Sandu today approved the resignation of Ana Revenco from the leadership of the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation and signed the decree appointing Liliana Vițu as director of the institution. Maia Sandu expressed her confidence that Liliana Vițu will continue to develop the Center and increase society’s capacity to respond to increasingly complex challenges in the information space.

Liliana Vițu has over 25 years of experience in media and communication, and for almost the last five years she has headed the Audiovisual Council, a regulatory institution that she has oriented toward serving citizens and aligned with European regulatory standards.

The Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation has the mission of strengthening cooperation among institutions in the fight against disinformation, information manipulation, and foreign interference that can harm national security and jeopardize the achievement of national interests.
