Moldova’s defence system to be modernized under implementation Program of National Defence Strategy
By 2030, the Republic of Moldova will have a modernized national defence system based on professional personnel and capabilities adapted to current security risks. This system will contribute to protecting the country’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as its constitutional order.
The objectives are set out in the 2026–2030 Implementation Program of the National Defence Strategy of the Republic of Moldova for the period 2024–2034, approved today by the Government.
The document provides for measures to modernize the national defence capacity, integrate the Republic of Moldova into the European Union’s security architecture, and strengthen bilateral, regional, and international cooperation in the field of defence and security.
At the same time, the Program aims to increase the Republic of Moldova’s contribution to regional and international security, including through participation in peacekeeping missions and operations.
Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi emphasized that the Program sets out the concrete actions needed to adapt the national defence system to new risks and challenges: “In the current security context, the implementation of the National Defence Strategy Program represents an essential step toward strengthening the state’s defence capacities. Through an integrated national effort and concrete actions, we will strengthen the country’s resilience, respond effectively to hybrid threats, and ensure the protection of democratic values and a safe environment for our citizens.”
