Energy-saving measures in Parliament

Parliament has intensified energy-saving measures and the efficient use of resources, in the current context of the energy sector. The institution has limited electricity consumption and has temporarily disconnected the hot water supply.

According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, some of the measures implemented are already part of current best practices for efficient resource management, while others have been strengthened during this period.

Thus, a rational lighting regime is applied in the Parliament building, by making use of natural light and switching off lighting fixtures in areas that are not in use. In addition, electrical equipment that is not needed is disconnected, and its use is strictly limited to the needs of the work process.

Employees are encouraged to use the stairs instead of elevators for short-distance movements, and unnecessary energy consumption before the start of the working day, during breaks, and after working hours is avoided.

As part of the energy efficiency measures, Parliament has temporarily disconnected the decorative and architectural lighting of the building, as well as the hot water supply.

At the same time, approximately 70% of the staff of the Parliament Secretariat are on annual leave, which allows for a reduction in energy consumption through the use of fewer spaces and pieces of equipment.

The institution notes that motion sensors previously installed on staircases and in certain rooms also help reduce electricity consumption, since lighting operates only when needed.

According to Parliament, the measures aim at the responsible use of energy resources and more efficient consumption, without affecting the institution’s activity. Some of these have been implemented for a longer time, while others have been intensified in the current context.
