VIDEO // Water level in Novodnestrovsk reservoir continues to drop

The water level in the Novodnestrovsk reservoir in Ukraine has reached 112.9 meters, more than four meters lower than in the same period last year, when it was 117 meters, announced Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder, who is on a visit to Ukraine.

According to the minister, the decrease in the water level is caused by the low flow rate of the tributaries. In recent days, an average of about 30 cubic meters of water per second has been flowing into the reservoir, while discharges amount to around 85 cubic meters per second.

“We are using the strategic reserve to ensure the population’s water supply,” stated Gheorghe Hajder, noting that the situation is being continuously monitored.

The official urged the population to use water responsibly and to obtain information only from credible sources, emphasizing that saving water is essential in the context of decreasing water resources.

The Republic of Moldova has introduced, starting from July 28, a state of hydrological alert for a period of 30 days, following the significant reduction of water resources in the Dniester River basin.
