Moldovan parliament amend 2025 budget: primary, secondary school pupils to receive aid worth 1,000 lei each
About 295,000 pupils from grades I–IX will benefit from a one-off financial aid of 1,000 lei, according to the amendments to the State Budget for the year 2025, voted in the first reading by 57 MPs. The opposition criticized the budget’s rectification.
In this respect, 300 million lei will be allocated to the State Social Insurance Budget. The rectifications also provide for other significant allocations: 50 million lei for the reorganization and support of employees of Moldova’s Railway state enterprise; 50 million lei for the government's intervention fund in case of emergency situations; 100 million lei for the renovation and equipping of school cafeterias; additional allocations for salaries in the public sector and external projects.
In terms of revenues, the changes include: an additional 300 million lei from value added tax (VAT); an additional 8.8 million lei collected by public sector institutions; an additional 38.8 million lei from external grants.
Overall, the budget revenues and expenditures will increase by 647.7 million lei, without altering the budget deficit. The draft on amendment is to be voted in the second reading.
At the same time, amendments to the Law on State Social Insurance Budget and the Law on Mandatory Health Insurance Accounts were also voted in the first reading, in order to cover expenses generated by the indexation of pensions, new social payments and the compensation of medicines and medical devices.
