DOC // Anti-plagiarism standards in universities, published in Moldova's Official Journal: new rules for bachelor’s, master’s theses

A new anti-plagiarism system will be implemented in all universities of Moldova. This means that all bachelor’s and master’s theses will be obligatorily checked before their defense, using the Sistemantiplagiat.ro platform. The order of the Minister of Education and Research providing for this measure was published in the Official Journal today.

The system is a digital tool that compares texts and identifies possible similarities with other works or sources available in academic databases and on the internet.

After the software is put into use, plagiarism checking will become a mandatory stage in the process of drafting and evaluating theses. In a first phase, each student will receive a similarity report before the final submission of the thesis, in order to correct any citation or paraphrasing issues.

The generated reports will not be interpreted automatically. They are analyzed by the supervisor of the thesis, who issues a reasoned decision regarding the originality of the work. In situations when certain technical thresholds are exceeded or suspicions arise, the analysis is additionally carried out by a committee made up of three teaching staff members.

Also, the order stipulates that the use of artificial intelligence in academic activity is allowed only under conditions of transparency, individual responsibility and in accordance with the rules established by the higher education institution.

In the end, only the works that go through all verification stages and receive an appropriate resolution will be admitted to the final defense before the examination committee.
