My village – our town hall: 512 voluntary amalgamation decisions adopted
So far, local councils in the Republic of Moldova have adopted 512 decisions on the voluntary amalgamation of town halls. Mayors of the localities that have decided to merge are confident that together they will be able to implement more development projects and offer new opportunities and better living conditions in their communities.
In Ungheni, 32 town halls are choosing to join forces to form several stronger and more efficient municipalities. One of the clusters formed includes Ungheni, Zagarancea, Mănoilești, Valea Mare, Florițoaia Veche, Cetireni, Unțești and Morenii Noi, which together are making an important step toward a stronger and more efficient administration. These localities will receive resources worth over 151 million lei for development.
"This is a decision that shows courage, responsibility and vision. The mayors of these localities put the development of communities and the well-being of citizens first. I thank them for this example of unity and for their commitment to building strong municipalities together for developed localities," said Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu.
"The more public administrations join forces, the more water and sanitation, road, and street lighting projects will reach our villages," said Vitalie Vrabie, Mayor of Ungheni municipality.
In Anenii Noi district, 19 town halls have already adopted decisions to initiate the process of voluntary amalgamation, while in Cimișlia the mayors of Javgur, Ialpujeni, Hîrtop, Grădiște and Valea Perjei met this week to discuss the town hall they will form together, the location of the new administrative center, and the priority projects for their communities. As a result of the amalgamation, the five localities in Cimișlia district will benefit from resources worth about 20 million lei.
In Basarabeasca, the localities of Carabetovca, Abaclia, Sadaclia, Iordanovca and Iserlia will work together to build a new shared development vision based on cooperation, administrative efficiency, and better public services for citizens.
Also this week, President Maia Sandu paid a working visit to Nisporeni, and discussed local public administration reform with the district’s mayors. In this context, the importance of effective communication with citizens about the planned changes and the benefits they will bring to communities was highlighted.
In Dubăsari district as well, town halls are working on creating voluntary amalgamation clusters. During a meeting with local representatives from Cocieri, Coșnița, Holercani, Doroțcaia, Pîrîta, Ustia, Molovata, Oxentea and Mărcăuți, it was emphasized that this initiative marks a new stage in the modernization of local administration, transforming town halls into strategic institutions capable of attracting major investments.
The voluntary amalgamation process has been simplified, and the Government will provide all necessary support to the town halls involved. Localities that choose to merge their administrations can benefit from financial incentives of 3,000 lei for each resident, multiplied by the population of the villages participating in the amalgamation.
