Moldovan Central Electoral Commission temporarily suspends online submission of electoral complaints

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has temporarily suspended the operation of the online module for submitting electoral complaints following recent cybersecurity incidents targeting public services of Moldova. The measure was taken, in order to verify and update electronic authentication mechanisms, including the ones integrated with the government’s MPass service.

According to the CEC, the Electoral Complaints module has been placed in maintenance mode until the necessary technical adjustments are completed. The decision is preventive and aims to reduce the risks of unauthorized access, protect personal data and enhance the security of the institution’s information infrastructure.

The electoral authority specifies that, on this period, electoral complaints may still be submitted in two other ways: electronically, to info@cec.md, or physically, at the headquarters of the Central Electoral Commission at 119 Vasile Alecsandri Street, Chisinau.

The CEC said that it would provide users with further information about the restoration of access to the online module.

The institution says that the protection of personal data, the security of information systems and the continuity of electoral processes stay among its priorities.
