
New local elections to be held in two localities on 16 November
The Central Electoral Commission /CEC/ decided in today's meeting that new local elections will be organized on 16 November 2025 in Călinești commune, Fălești district, and Leova city, Leova district.
According to the CEC, the decision was made following the voluntary amalgamation process by which the local public administration system was consolidated and the following administrative-territorial units formed by merger: Călinești commune with its component localities: Călinești, Chetriș, Chetrișul Nou and Hîncești from Fălești district and Leova city with its component localities: Sărata-Răzeși, Sîrma and Tochile-Răducani.
Thus, in accordance with the provisions of the legal framework, the Commission established new local elections for the position of mayor and a new composition of Călinești communal council, Fălești district, as well as for the position of mayor and a new composition of Leova city council, Leova district.
Based on the number of inhabitants of the first-level administrative-territorial units as of June 28, 2025, according to the data from the State Population Register presented by the Public Services Agency, the CEC established 13 council mandates for a new composition of Călinești communal council, Fălești district, and 23 council mandates for a new composition of Leova city council, Leova district.
The mandates of the mayors and councilors from Călinești commune, Fălești district and from Leova city, Leova district will cease upon the validation date of the next mayor's mandate and, respectively, the legal constitution of the newly elected council of the amalgamated administrative-territorial units.
On 16 November 2025, new local elections will also be organized in four other localities in the country: Ustia village, Glodeni district, Natalievca commune, Fălești district, Cremenciug commune, Soroca district, and Bașcalia village, Basarabeasca district.
