Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had discussions with high-ranking officials from Latvia and Sweden, on the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva.
After the meeting with the Vice President of the Latvian Parliament, Antonina Ņenaševa, Igor Grosu said that Latvia was an important partner for Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.
‘’Latvia is an important partner for Moldova in the process of joining the European Union. We receive concrete support and assistance in aligning with European requirements. I took this opportunity to thank the Vice President of the Latvian Parliament, Antonina Ņenaševa, with whom I had the chance to speak during the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva,’’ said Igor Grosu.
At the same time, the speaker met Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Andreas Norlén. Igor Grosu said that Sweden was one of Moldova's largest bilateral donors, constantly helping, especially in the energy sector, both strengthening the country’s energy resilience and providing direct assistance to citizens to cope with payments of invoices.
‘’I had the opportunity to thank Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Andreas Norlén for every support Sweden provides to Moldova, and also for the immense help offered to Ukraine, which has been bravely defending our country for over three years. Sweden is one of the biggest bilateral donors to Moldova and it constantly helps us, especially in the energy sector, both in strengthening our energy resilience and providing direct assistance to citizens to cope with payments of invoices. Moldova has strong partners on its European path. Thank you for every support!’’ emphasized the Moldovan parliament speaker.
Speaker Igor Grosu is participating in the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the United Nations and held once every five years. The meeting, now at its sixth edition, provides a framework for dialogue between legislative leaders from around the world. The event's agenda includes debates on such topics as inter-parliamentary cooperation, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, digital transformation and protecting the rights of vulnerable people.
Igor Grosu gave a speech at the plenary session, focused on the role of parliaments in defending democracy, protecting citizens and maintaining peace. Also, the parliament speaker has scheduled meetings with other counterparts and will meet with members of the Moldovan community in Switzerland.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union, established in 1889, is the world's first multilateral political organization and brings together 181 national parliaments and 15 regional parliamentary organizations.
