Geneva Conference // Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine; Moldovan parliament's delegation exits during Russian official's speech

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has informed that, alongside counterparts from more countries, he had left the session hall of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, when the Speaker of the Russian Federation's Parliament, Valentina Matvienko, started her speech.

"This was an act of solidarity with Ukraine," said Igor Grosu, noting that Moldova had supported the neighboring country since the first day of the Russian invasion.

According to the parliament speaker, Moldova has been and remains alongside the Ukrainian people in their fight for sovereignty, freedom and territorial integrity.

"For three years, Ukraine has been fighting for an intact and indivisible country. It is our duty to stand by them, as a sign of respect for a people that wants to decide its own future, to be masters in their own home," stressed Grosu.

The gesture of the parliamentary leaders present in Geneva is seen as a reaffirmation of international support for Ukraine in the face of Russian Federation’s aggression and the defense of democratic values in Eastern Europe.
