The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are reaffirming their commitment to move forward together toward the European Union, while Chișinău will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. The statements were made by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan following his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhii Koretskyi, during a working visit to Kyiv.

The prime minister assured his counterpart in Kyiv that the Republic of Moldova will remain a reliable neighbor and partner of Ukraine.

“Moldova and Ukraine have chosen the same direction – toward the European Union. We appreciate the determination with which Ukraine continues its reforms even under the conditions of war, and we are ready to work together so that both countries can advance toward our common European future,” said Vasile Tofan.

At the same time, the prime minister reiterated the Republic of Moldova’s support for Ukraine, condemning the war launched by Russia and advocating for a just and lasting peace.

“Moldova firmly condemns Russia’s war of aggression and supports Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. We support a just and lasting peace, holding the aggressor accountable and the safe return of deported Ukrainian children. We will continue to provide Ukraine with political, diplomatic and humanitarian support,” the prime minister said.

Support for Ukraine represents an investment in the security, peace and prosperity of the Republic of Moldova, Tofan said.

“Ukrainians are defending their country and contributing to peace throughout Europe. For their courage, sacrifice and resilience, we owe them respect and gratitude. Therefore, supporting Ukraine is a choice for the security, peace and prosperity of the Republic of Moldova,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi emphasized that Ukraine’s and the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union is important for the security and economic development of both countries. In this context, Koretskyi noted that synchronized integration also has an economic component, as the two countries are closely connected by transport corridors and have trade relations.

“We appreciate and respect the progress made by the Republic of Moldova on the path of reforms and legislative implementation. Ukraine is taking important steps in this direction. Therefore, we expect both countries to be able to simultaneously fulfill all the requirements and achieve accession to the European Union together. (...) Advancing together on the path of European integration will contribute to the development of cross-border trade, the attraction of investments and integration into the European Union market,” Koretskyi said.

Koretskyi thanked his Moldovan counterpart for the consistent support provided to Ukraine and for the constructive dialogue.

Vasile Tofan is on a working visit to Ukraine, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii, and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. During the visit, the prime minister attended, together with his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhii Koretskyi, the Kyiv International Economic Forum, where he invited Ukrainian entrepreneurs to invest in the Republic of Moldova. The visit’s program also includes meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
