Prime Minister attends Kyiv International Economic Forum
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan participated in Kyiv International Economic Forum, and spoke about the resilience of the Ukrainian economy, investment opportunities and the role of the Republic of Moldova in strengthening regional economic ties.
In his speech, the official highlighted the ability of Ukrainian entrepreneurs to continue developing businesses, investing and innovating, despite the war and Russia’s systematic attacks on energy, industrial and logistics infrastructure.
“For many years, I have believed in Ukraine as an investor. Today I believe in Ukraine’s economic future as a neighbor and a friend. Not because I underestimate the risks, but because I know the people who are building this future. I am convinced that, once peace comes, investors will want to take part in reviving the Ukrainian economy,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s support for Ukraine and expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian soldiers who, by defending their country, contribute to the security of our country. The head of government stressed that solidarity between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine must also be reflected in concrete measures to support the Ukrainian economy.
“We have decided to grant a 50% discount in railway transit tariffs for Ukrainian goods transported through the Republic of Moldova. It was not an easy decision. But friendship is not measured in statements. It is demonstrated through decisions,” he emphasized.
At the same time, the Prime Minister expressed the Republic of Moldova’s willingness to cooperate with Ukraine on modernizing infrastructure, reducing border-crossing times and developing new logistics routes. Another area of cooperation involves creating, together with Ukrainian companies, logistics centers and storage facilities in the Republic of Moldova, which would help maintain supply chains and Ukrainian exports.
He invited Ukrainian entrepreneurs to take advantage of investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova, including in manufacturing and logistics. The Prime Minister highlighted the country’s potential to become a gateway to the markets of Romania and the Balkans, thanks to its geographical proximity, infrastructure and existing economic ties.
In this context, Vasile Tofan emphasized that the Government aims to make the Republic of Moldova more attractive to investors by simplifying procedures, increasing administrative efficiency and ensuring a predictable business environment.
The Prime Minister also addressed the common European future of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of continuing reforms, strengthening institutions and developing the economy: “Ukraine needs the European Union. But the European Union also needs Ukraine. Its industry, its technologies, its entrepreneurs. Its experience, strength and unconquerable spirit. Europe will be stronger alongside Ukraine.”
