Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, who is on a working visit to Kyiv, delivered a message of appreciation for Ukraine, highlighting the contribution of the Ukrainian people’s resistance to the security of the Republic of Moldova and the importance of developing economic relations between the two countries.

„I thank Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi for a sincere and constructive welcome in Kyiv. Every day that Ukrainians defend their cities, families, and freedom, they also contribute to the security of the Republic of Moldova. Their resistance allows us to live in peace and build our future at home,” Vasile Tofan wrote on his Facebook page after his meetings in Kyiv.

He also highlighted the economic opportunities offered by cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. According to him, the two countries have an energy connection through which electricity flows in both directions, and they are currently discussing deepening cooperation in the gas sector as well.

At the same time, the prime minister noted that the transit of Ukrainian goods generates significant revenues for Moldovan Railways. The authorities are also working to attract more Ukrainian businesses to the Republic of Moldova, including in the logistics and warehousing sectors, which could help attract investment and create jobs.

„Support for Ukraine is a choice for the security, peace, and prosperity of the Republic of Moldova. Ukrainians are defending their country and contributing to peace throughout Europe. For their courage, sacrifice, and resilience, we owe them respect and gratitude,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the Republic of Moldova for reducing freight rail transport tariffs, a measure agreed upon in response to Russia’s attacks in the Black Sea. The two countries are ready to extend joint border control to two more crossing points and will soon sign an agreement to this effect.

„I thanked Moldova for the reduced freight rail transport tariffs agreed upon in response to Russian terror in the Black Sea. We are ready to extend joint border control to two more crossing points with Moldova, and we will soon sign an agreement to this effect,” Koretskyi said.

At the same time, the two sides agreed to relaunch the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as the „Odesa Triangle” format, which brings together Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Romania. The first meeting of this format at the prime ministerial level is planned for the near future.

At the end, the Ukrainian prime minister thanked Vasile Tofan and the Government of the Republic of Moldova for their firm support for Ukraine.

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine reaffirm their commitment to moving forward together toward the European Union, while Chișinău will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. The statements were made by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan following his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhii Koretskyi, in Kyiv.

During Prime Minister Vasile Tofan’s visit, the defense ministers of the two countries signed a technical-military cooperation agreement, which also aims to identify solutions for protecting the airspace of our country.
