The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine signed a technical-military cooperation agreement today in Kyiv, which also aims to identify solutions to protect our country’s airspace.

“Ukraine has accumulated extraordinary experience—indeed, the best in the world—in protection against drones, including through effective and low-cost technological solutions. We want to learn from this experience and identify solutions for protecting our airspace. This is natural cooperation between two neighboring countries,” the prime minister said at a joint press conference held alongside his Ukrainian counterpart.

According to the official, on Saturday alone, five drones or projectile fragments fell on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

“We cannot ignore these risks. Our airspace has been violated more than 100 times since the beginning of the war. Drones and projectile fragments have fallen on the territory of our country—five in a single Saturday,” Vasile Tofan said.

Vasile Tofan emphasized that Ukraine’s resistance contributes to the security of the Republic of Moldova, while the war at the country’s border requires the strengthening of defense capabilities, despite the country’s neutral status.

“Every day that Ukrainians defend their cities, families, and freedom, they also contribute to the security of the Republic of Moldova. Their resistance allows us to live in peace and build our future at home. Moldova is and will remain a peaceful and neutral state. But neutrality does not mean being defenseless. Our duty is to protect the peace and safety of our citizens. But the war is at our border. We also know what threats to our energy security mean,” he said.

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine reaffirm their commitment to moving forward together toward the European Union, while Chișinău will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. The statements were made by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan after his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Sergii Koretskyi, during the working visit he is making to Kyiv.

Vasile Tofan is on a working visit to Ukraine, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi, and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. During the visit, the prime minister attended the Kyiv International Economic Forum alongside his Ukrainian counterpart, Sergii Koretskyi, where he invited Ukrainian entrepreneurs to invest in the Republic of Moldova.

The visit’s agenda also includes meetings with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
