Prime Minister orders institutional mobilization amid state of emergency: Every decision must be result‑oriented

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today ordered the mobilization of institutions in the context of declaring state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days. The official stressed that the state of emergency primarily means action, rapid interventions, strict coordination, and decisions taken without delay.

“Parliament approved yesterday declaring of a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days. But I very much hope that we will not need these 60 days and that we will manage to solve this problem much sooner,” Alexandru Munteanu said at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.

The official noted that the decision to introduce the state of emergency is a pragmatic and necessary one and means “rapid interventions, strict coordination, and decisions taken without delay”.

He added that he convened a coordination meeting this morning with the participation of MPs, with all parliamentary factions represented. “We had a transparent dialogue, in the interest of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” the Prime Minister underlined.

Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that the priority of the authorities in the context of the state of emergency is the stability of the energy system and the protection of citizens and the economy.

“From today we are working in a different mode; every institution must be mobilized, every decision must be result‑oriented. And our priority is clear: the stability of the energy system, the restoration of a normal operating mode, and the protection of our citizens and our economy,” the Prime Minister concluded.

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has introduced a nationwide state of emergency for a period of 60 days, starting on March 25, 2026, after the main power line supplying the Republic of Moldova – the Vulcănești–Isaccea line – was disconnected following Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure.

The decision was taken at the Government’s proposal, which justified the need to introduce the state of emergency by the fact that it will allow the authorities to act quickly and protect citizens.
