VIDEO // Minister of Energy explains reasons behind declaration of state of emergency
Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu explained the reasons that led to the need to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days.
According to the official, this decision comes following the serious incident that occurred on March 23, which led to the disconnection of the Vulcănești–Isaccea line.
“I want to tell you what caused this state of emergency. On the evening of March 23, around 19:15, due to Russian attacks on the territory of Ukraine, our energy infrastructure, the property of the Republic of Moldova, was affected. What happened? Several Shahed drones targeted our energy infrastructure. As a result, Isaccea–Vulcănești power line was damaged. There are broken conductors that the Ukrenergo company will help us repair. The works will last between five and seven days,” explained Dorin Junghietu.
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has declared a state of emergency at the national level for a period of 60 days, starting March 25, 2026. The decision was published today in the Official Journal and has entered into force.
The decision was taken at the proposal of the Government, which justified the need to declare the state of emergency by stating that it will allow the authorities to act quickly and protect citizens.
The Isaccea–Vulcănești overhead power line was disconnected on the evening of Monday, March 23, following attacks on the energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. Under these conditions, the authorities put in place alternative energy supply routes, including the four 110 kV interconnection lines between Romania and Moldova.
