Higher daily allowances for children without parental care starting 1 April 2026
Government has approved a 6.84% indexation of the daily allowances for children left without parental care, as well as of the spending norms for the maintenance of persons accommodated in social institutions starting from 1 April 2026.
The allowances will be increased as follows: for regular days – from 25 lei to 27 lei; for the child’s birthday – from 204 lei to 218 lei; for holidays – from 145 lei to 155 lei. The measure will benefit children placed in social services such as professional foster care, family-type children’s homes, guardianship/custodianship, community homes for children at risk, and placement centres for children separated from their parents who are enrolled in educational institutions. In 2025, 2,399 children benefited from this allowance.
At the same time, in order to strengthen the capacity of social institutions to effectively respond to the needs of all categories of beneficiaries, the spending norms for the maintenance of persons accommodated in social institutions will also increase by 6.84%. The list of institutions includes centres for the protection of victims of domestic violence.
The spending norms are used for social institutions of all types and levels and refer to the provision of food products, medicines, clothing, footwear, hygiene and sanitary products, equipment, and toys.
In 2025, up to 15,000 people benefited from social services in residential centres and day centres, including children at risk, older persons and people with disabilities.
