Record turnout at Romanian elections

By 5 PM, about 20,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship had cast their vote in the Romanian presidential elections. In total, by this time, over 112,000 Romanians abroad have participated in the election.

The voter turnout is higher than in the first round, with voters from the Republic of Moldova being the most active in the diaspora. High voter turnout is also recorded in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and France.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that today Romanian citizens abroad, including those from the Republic of Moldova, are voting under good conditions, with no problems reported.

Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova can vote at 64 polling stations. These are open between 7 AM and 9 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In the Northern region, 18 polling stations are organized, in the Central region - 38 polling stations, of which 20 are in Chișinău, and in the Southern region - 8 polling stations.

In the first round of the Romanian presidential elections, about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted over three days.

For the Romanian presidential elections, 965 polling stations have been opened abroad. In these, Romanian citizens located abroad on the day of the election can vote, regardless of whether they have a domicile or residence outside the country or not. Romanian citizens abroad have three days to vote.

Two candidates are participating in the presidential race: AUR party candidate George Simion and independent candidate Nicușor Dan.
