Works at Chisinau Electrical Substation progressing; Romanian Ambassador says Romania stays reliable partner of Moldova in strengthening energy security

The modernization works at the Chisinau Electrical Substation, part of the Vulcanesti–Chisinau interconnection project, are progressing according to the plan. The authorities have made statements to this effect at a coordination meeting held at the Embassy of Romania in Moldova, with the participation of the Energy Ministry, the contracting companies and the project’s beneficiary.

According to Ambassador Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the project is registering significant progress and efforts are focused on speeding up the commissioning of the energy infrastructure.

“Notable and very good results are being recorded for the fastest possible energization of the project. Romania stays a reliable partner of Moldova in the process of strengthening energy security,” said Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu.

The Chisinau Electrical Substation is being modernized, in order to be able to receive power from the 400 kV Vulcanesti–Chisinau transmission line, a project considered strategic for the interconnection of the national power system. The initiative aims to connect Moldova to Romania’s power system and to the European ENTSO-E network, in order to strengthen the country’s energy stability and independence. The works include the installation of equipment, the expansion of the substation and infrastructure testing, in parallel with the progress of the overhead power line construction, including the erection of pylons, the construction of foundations and the setting of cables.

The project is being implemented by the government of Moldova, with the support of the World Bank Group, and has a value of approximately 61 million euros.
