Igor Grosu re-elected PAS president for new four-year term
Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) leader Igor Grosu was re-elected on Sunday as president of the party for a new four-year term during the party’s 4th Congress, held in Chișinău. Grosu was the only candidate in the race and received 925 votes “for” and 27 “against”, while five ballots were declared invalid.
A total of 935 voting delegates took part in the congress, where they also elected the party’s new leadership team for the next four years.
In his speech, Grosu thanked party members for their trust and reviewed the party’s evolution over the last decade.
“It is an incredible honor to receive this vote of confidence for a new term as PAS president. Ten years ago, I set out on this road together with you – a road that few of us imagined would look exactly like this. But we are still here, strong, organized and unique, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that,” he said.
Grosu said that the party’s success is due to citizens’ trust in the political project promoted by PAS.
“I also thank the citizens. This party was formed and continues to exist thanks to them, thanks to their trust that Moldova can have parties that practice honest politics,” he said.
The PAS president highlighted the electoral results achieved by the party in recent years and the progress made in the process of European integration of the Republic of Moldova.
“From the last Congress until today, we have become the party that has won three elections together – all of them crucial for making our European path irreversible. We did it!” Grosu declared.
According to him, in the last four years the Republic of Moldova has moved from the status of candidate country to the European Union to the stage of accession negotiations.
“Since the last Congress, we have gone from being a candidate country to a country that has already opened the first cluster in the accession process. We are literally in the midst of the hard work required for accession to the European Union,” he said.
In his speech, Igor Grosu said that PAS’s main objective remains to continue on the European path and to strengthen the political party.
“From a team in the process of being built, we have become the team that builds – builds the European future of the country. But we are only halfway there. I pledge to continue working, together with the team of vice presidents and members of the Standing Bureau, so that we can become the party that takes Moldova into the European Union,” Grosu said.
He reiterated that the party aims to win the next local, presidential and parliamentary elections as well, in order to ensure the continuity of reforms and of the EU accession process.
The new Standing Bureau of the party was also presented at the congress. The positions of vice president went to: Doina Gherman, Veronica Roșca, Mihai Popșoi, Radu Marian, Vladimir Bolea, Dan Perciun, Virgil Pîslariuc, Ion Groza, Lilian Carp, Adrian Băluțel, Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, Gheorghe Hajder, Larisa Voloh, Igor Chiriac and Tatiana Cucuietu.
The following were elected members of PAS’s Standing Bureau: Marcela Adam, Alex Trubca, Nicolae Drăgănel, Dionisie Ternovschi, Larisa Novac, Ion Babici, Eugeniu Sinchevici, Tatiana Rotari, Maxim Potârniche, Leonid Boaghi, Roman Cojocari, Mihai Șevciuc and Veronica Briceag. The position of party secretary general was taken over by Andrei Rusanovschi.
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu also sent a video message in which she thanked PAS members and supporters for their contribution to the reforms promoted in recent years and to bringing the country closer to the European Union.
Acting Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan and Member of the European Parliament Siegfried Mureșan also attended the event.
“I hope that in 2028, with good organization, you will be able to finalize the process of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union,” Ilie Bolojan said.
At the same time, Siegfried Mureșan said that only PAS can lead the Republic of Moldova towards the European Union and reaffirmed the support of Romania’s National Liberal Party for the ruling party.
PAS was founded on 15 May 2016 by Maia Sandu. After Maia Sandu was elected president of the Republic of Moldova, the party leadership was taken over by Igor Grosu, who officially became party leader at the 2022 congress.
