Foreign Ministry condemns incident in Orhei: Threat to security and violation of state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned the incident occurred near the locality of Lopatna, Orhei district, where an unidentified flying device, presumed to be a drone, crashed and exploded on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the unauthorized overflight of any flying object in the airspace of the Republic of Moldova or its crash on the national territory constitutes a threat to national security and represents a violation of the state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“This incident highlights, once again, the risks and consequences that the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine generates for regional security and for neighboring states,” the MFA said.

At the same time, the institution underlined that “in the face of these challenges, the Republic of Moldova will continue to strengthen its defense and resilience capabilities, investing in peace, security and the protection of its citizens, in order to guarantee the safety of the country and its population.”

The Police announced this morning that an unknown flying device, most likely a drone, exploded last night outside the built-up area of the locality of Lopatna, Orhei district. The alert was received around midnight from a resident of Lopatna village, who observed the flying object and, shortly afterwards, a blast. The area was immediately isolated, secured and monitored in accordance with strict safety protocols. The authorities announced that no person was harmed as a result of the incident.
