VIDEO // Moldovan foreign affairs minister in Luxembourg says Moldova relies on EU's support to open negotiation clusters

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi, at a meeting of foreign ministers on interregional security and connectivity, held in Luxembourg, has said that Moldova relied on the support of European Union member states to advance to the next stage of the accession process and to open negotiation clusters.

"Moldova delivered significant results at the latest elections. The citizens of Moldova have clearly and loudly expressed where they want to see their future and the future of their children. No disinformation campaign or cyberattack from the Kremlin managed to sway us from the legitimate wish of the Moldovan society to be part of the European Union," noted Mihai Popsoi.

The official emphasized the appreciation of the Moldovan authorities for the constant support provided by the European Union and its member states in promoting democracy and strengthening institutions of Moldova.

"We now count on the support of member states to advance to the next step, to open negotiation clusters and to progress based on a meritocratic system," the deputy PM specified.

Mihai Popsoi also highlighted the importance of strengthening interregional cooperation with countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, and within the Eastern Partnership, emphasizing Moldova’s role as an active partner in promoting regional stability and security.

"There is a need for closer coordination, closer cooperation, building bridges with countries of the Central Asia and the Caucasus, with Moldova as a candidate country, as well as with the Eastern Partnership states," he added.

In conclusion, the Moldovan diplomacy head expressed thanks to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and European Commissioner Marta Kos for the invitation and support provided, as well as to member states for their contribution to strengthening Moldovan institutions.

Mihai Popsoi today participated in the meeting of foreign ministers on interregional security and connectivity, organized in Luxembourg, on the sidelines of the meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council.
