DOC // Moldova bringing drone regulations into line with European standards
The regulation establishing new rules for drone operations in the Republic of Moldova’s U-space airspace has been published in the Official Journal. The document, previously approved by the Government, introduces a clear framework aligned with European Union rules for the safe operation of drones in designated U-space areas.
The new provisions establish the conditions under which drones will be able to operate in the same airspace as manned aircraft, as well as the requirements applicable to drone operators and U-space service providers.
The regulation introduces mechanisms for transmitting and coordinating information about drone flights with air traffic services. Thus, the system will enable drone identification, verification of the operating area, flight authorization, and the provision of information about air traffic in the area.
“These mechanisms are necessary to manage an increasing number of drones operating in the same airspace without endangering the safety of other aircraft. The new regulatory framework also creates conditions for the development of commercial services based on the use of drones, including deliveries, technical inspections, and precision agriculture. The adoption and publication of the Regulation in the Official Journal represents another step in aligning national civil aviation legislation with the European Union acquis. The document transposes into the legislation of the Republic of Moldova the European Commission’s implementing regulation on the regulatory framework for U-space,” according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
Through the new rules, the Republic of Moldova is creating the framework necessary for the safe and controlled integration of drones into its airspace and for the development of new economic activities based on this technology.
